The year that was - KL Mountain Bike Carnival 2007

The 5th year of KL Mountain Bike Carnival this 2007 saw the driest race course ever. It threatened to rain throughout the weekend but held up till just after

prize giving ceremony making it a very fast race course. Indonesian, Bandi Sugito from Team Charmdevo conquered Kiara for the 3rd year in a row by a mere 24 seconds followed by Malaysian top mountain bike racers, Mohd Hafiz Rozli, Shahrin Amir, Jr Stanly Jalip and Azizul Azli Shaari. Due to race course conditions, Bandi set a new record at 8 minutes 41 seconds per 2.1km lap. Masziyaton Md Radzi from Team Majlis Sukan Negeri Kedah showed she is here to stay by taking home the top Women’s Elite prize in two years.

The Age group categories saw spectacular racing with many thrills and spills causing surprises at the end. The Youth category saw Mohd Yazrul Hisham from Malaysia MTB Team emerge as champion among a group of very talented pool of future mountain bikers.
One rider deserved a mention as the most persistent racer, after his first lap, his saddle fell off but instead of giving up, he raced 2 full laps without a seat. He may have finished last in his category but in our hearts and minds, Barry Lee was the ‘real’ champion of the day. Everyone lined the trails waiting to watch the showdown between the strong men of Men’s 41 & Above which did not disappoint as these men delivered – Paul Moir won the race, Happy Birthday to you. Our Super Mom from Ipoh drove down to race, won hands down then drove home with 1st placing in Women’s Sport – Thank you Lea Yeo for being our inspiration.
KL Mountain Bike Carnival will not have been possible without our dedicated title sponsors that have shown continued support over 5 years and are committed as we are in developing mountain biking as a sport in Malaysia - A big thank you goes to ASTRO, MAXIS and TANJONG Entertainment from the mountain biking community. We would also like to thank our co-sponsors PowerBar and Zazen Health Solutions; our other sponsors Thule, Velo4.com, Concept Cycles, Bicycle World for contributing the lucky draw prizes and Tukang Basikal Fook Sang for the cash vouchers.
