Thank
you for the support and enthusiasm shown at our inaugural endurance
mountain bike race, Singapore Bike Asia 100 Mountain Bike Race 2008,
a first of many more to come and a new phenomenon in mountain biking
in Singapore and South East Asia.
We
would like to share with you an explanatory statement from the
Commissaire in Charge of the race (
Race Communique Nos 1 ) on the reasons for
which the event was cancelled. We fully support his decision as your
safety should always be a number one consideration on our list. Some
of you may not know that Singapore has the highest incidence of
lightning strikes in the world with fatality statistics to prove; you
have a higher chance of being struck by lightning here than winning
the lottery! Riding under heavy-rain conditions is part and parcel of
mountain biking. Getting struck by lightning, especially in the
widely open Tampines track, is a life-and-death issue. Continuing
with a race isn't.
For
those of you anxiously waiting for our results, we will be uploading
them onto our website by Wednesday 1700pm.

the brighter side of things, those of you who have finished at last 5

suffered by each wheel of your bike!

also welcome url links to those of you who would like to share your
photos of the event on our website.
Although the lightning and
thunderstorm has dampened the event, we hope it did not dampen your
spirit in taking on yet another DirTraction event in future. We look
forward to your continued support.
Last
but not least, we would like to thank legendary Tinker Juarez for
gracing our event and for being an inspiration to us all. In his own
words, Tinker says with a big smile "see you all next year"! That
means it's time to start training for next year's 100km mountain
bike race and finishing off all 100km! Hopefully the weather will be
kinder to us all.
Happy trails!
